This day has been established to introduce the new winter annual crop Field Pennycress to local producers. Researchers along with industry representatives will be present to discuss this very unique short season crop. We have completed 6 years of research towards the development and commercial launch of pennycress. Research will be presented on projects funded by the USDA-NIFA IPREFER project, DOE IPREP project, and Illinois Soybean Association project looking at crop rotations with pennycress.
We will discuss the results from the previous year and have a chance to tour the plots including live demonstrations of optical seed sorting and seed oil extraction. There will be plenty of time for pictures and individual questions. If you have any questions or would like to bring a large group, please contact Dr. Win Phippen for more details at wb-phippen@wiu.edu.
