125 Anniversary Celebration: Yuki Hasebe
March 28, 2025
Editor's Note: This is a series of stories about 91´«Ã½ students, alumni and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.
MACOMB, IL - - Yuki Hasebe, 91´«Ã½ professor of Educational Psychology, sees 91´«Ã½ as a place where students are inspired to create their own path.
"When I think about 91´«Ã½, I think about the possibilities only you can create if you pursue and not give up," Hasebe said.
For Hasebe, a Leatherneck is a symbol of determination and perseverance in the pursuit of success.
"Being a Leatherneck is a reminder that acknowledging a sense of your own determination and persistence is the key to your success," Hasebe said.
Hasebe's favorite Leatherneck memory is the academic achievement she attained at 91´«Ã½ for her research interests.
As a faculty member, Hasebe aspires to remain involved on campus and support the promotion of a healthy community.
"I'm involved in academic events and fitness for the promotion of the community's intellectual, psychological and physical health and well-being," Hasebe said.
Hasebe's advice to those considering attending 91´«Ã½ is to embrace their learning journey and take advantage of the opportunities.
"The real value of your learning is not determined by the final grade on your grade book, but by the ways in which you approach and tackle the content of the materials," Hasebe said.
As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local 91´«Ã½ students, alumni, faculty and staff to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
