The committee approved two new WID courses and successfully reviewed 6 courses in the College of Education and Human Services. The committee also continued to monitor over-enrollment and conducted two CITR sessions in the Spring. Activities A. To recommend to the Faculty Senate the approval and disapproval of all new WID courses. During the AY 2018-2019, the following courses requested and received WID designation: FL 490 Senior Capstone PHIL 300 History of Ancient Philosophy (BGS Online Course) B. To recommend to the Faculty Senate the approval and disapproval of all significant changes in the WID requirements for individual majors. No significant changes were submitted. C. To conduct periodic reviews of all WID courses to assure compliance with the principles and practices of the Writing Instruction in the Disciplines graduation requirement. The Committee continued reviewing existing WID courses. During AY 2018-2019, the following courses from the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) were successfully reviewed: RDG 382, RDG 383, RDG 384, SPED 370, SPED 400, NUTR 408. The following courses were reviewed, but were sent back to the Department for additional clarification of committee questions: KIN 444 and KIN 477. The courses were not returned to the committee prior to the end of the year and follow-up is recommended for AY 2019-2020. It is noted that upon review of all WID courses in COEHS, the review of existing WID courses, begun in 2016-2017, will have been completed. D. To maintain a list of all current instructors of WID courses. The WID committee continued to maintain a list of current WID instructors. E. To monitor course enrollment in WID courses. In the Fall 2018 semester, there were 3 courses that were overenrolled: COMM 247, MUS 390, RPTA 235. In the Spring 2019 semester, there were 3 courses that were overenrolled: NURS 408, RDG 384, MUS 391. F. To secure periodic feedback from students, faculty, alumni, and employers concerning implementation and effects of the Writing Instruction in the Disciplines graduation requirement. In the Fall, a survey was sent out soliciting interest in a range of possible topics for faculty development activities, as well as suitable times of day/days of week. Results from that survey were used to plan CITR sessions in the Spring (as detailed below). G. To sponsor one or more faculty development activities each year to improve Writing Instruction in the Disciplines courses. The committee conducted two CITR sessions during the Spring 2019 semester. These sessions were conducted by Magdelyn Helwig and Christopher Morrow. The sessions were poorly attended (1 attendee each), prompting discussion about the cost-benefit ratio for those who prepare these sessions, as well as revisiting the issue of conducting some sort of development activity for new faculty in the beginning of the Fall semester (rather than other times during the Fall or Spring semester). H. To perform such other duties as designated by the Faculty Senate.
