Both changes were subsequently approved by the Faculty Senate. In addition, the Provost's Office informed the Committee that LEJA 445, no longer an elective, was being removed from the list of WID electives in the Undergraduate Catalog (leaving five other LEJA courses as WID electives). The Committee also provided to Faculty Senate a list of course sections that exceeded the WID enrollment cap in Spring 2002 or Spring 2003. This list will be updated every semester. In Fall 2002 the Committee appointed two members to serve on the committee to review the Writing Examination. In Spring 2003 the Committee continued its review of departmental WID requirements, visiting with instructors and department chairs in nine programs: Agriculture, Community Health and Health Services, Dietetics, Engineering Technology, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Geography, History, Mathematics, and Philosophy and Religious Studies. Besides providing information to the Committee about how WID is being implemented and where it is weak, this review process is also important as a way to remind instructors of the WID guidelines, and it has been a context for dialogue with departments about strategies for writing instruction. The programs reviewed are teaching writing appropriate to their disciplines and their WID courses meet or exceed the WID guidelines. In 200304 the committee will revisit one program in which the instructors and chair have identified a need to revise the implementation of WID in the curriculum. The Committee began planning for a workshop in Fall 2003 to support WID instructors.
